This year's nationwide step by the fit4future foundation challenge came to an end at the end of January. It motivates pupils in the third and fourth grades to exercise more and lead a more active lifestyle. Goodman has continued to support the campaign in its sixth year and has taken on the sponsorship of over 550 children at six primary schools.

An incredible 188,765,665 steps have been taken by the pupils sponsored by Goodman. These add up to 126,474 kilometres - the equivalent of 3.1 circumnavigations of the globe.

"Team Goodman" celebrates great success

In the overall ranking of all schools taking part in the challenge, the "step by step dolphins" from the Schmachtenberg School in Essen achieved an outstanding 15th place. The other schools in "Team Goodman" also did very well:
GGS Europaring, Cologne: the "Cats" in 164th place
GS Feldkirchen-Westerham: Class 3g in 87th place
Viktoria-Luise-Schule, Frankfurt: Class "Bärenstark" in 63rd place
Surenland primary school, Hamburg: Class 3b in 95th place
Grundschule am See, Hamburg "The sporty ants" in 122nd place

Step fits in perfectly with Goodman's values

A total of 2.3 billion steps were taken

A total of around 7,000 children took part in the competition and took almost 2.3 billion steps - an enormous achievement. This covered a total distance of around 1.52 million kilometres and thus circumnavigated the world 37.9 times. step champions and winners in the federal state of Saxony are "The fast cheetahs" of the 30th Dresden primary school with over 32.7 million steps.

Three exercise challenges and nutrition quizzes

Over the course of the project, the children took part in three exercise challenges with motivation coming from triathlete Niklas Ludwig. Three nutrition quizzes were also organised for the participating classes, as teaching healthy eating is the second important component of step.

Fit4future - an initiative of DAK-Gesundheit and the fit4future foundation - is scientifically supported by Prof Ingo Froböse (Cologne Sports University) and Prof Martin Halle (Technical University of Munich).
