Leipzig continues to attract quality automakers and logistics companies, with Goodman Group commencing construction of a new 50,000 sqm logistics centre for BMW Group. The new building is being constructed in the immediate vicinity to the Leipzig plant of the BMW Group, which is currently being expanded. The handover is scheduled for summer 2019.
The new logistics centre in Leipzig is the third development Goodman has delivered for the renowned automaker in Germany, while Goodman currently manages seven properties for BMW in Landshut and Kleinaitlingen as well as in Australia, New Zealand and China. In Leipzig, Goodman has also built a 125,000 sqm logistics property for DB Schenker, which will be operated exclusively for BMW.
In order to maximise the efficiency of the supply chain, the new logistics centre in Leipzig features a 4,000 sqm loading tunnel as well as sufficient storage space for pallets or production items. In addition, there’s spacious office space over two floors.
Rapid development in the region around Leipzig
Leipzig is one of the most dynamic logistics regions in Germany. With its multimodal connections the location offers optimal infrastructure for different industries. North, South and Western Germany are within easy reach along the A9 and A38 autobahns while the A14 links the Leipzig logistics centre directly with Leipzig/Halle airport. Germany’s second largest freight airport, Leipzig/Halle has a 24-hour flight operation licence, making it the fifth largest in Europe. A strong rail network saw the rail freight depot’s utilised capacity for 2016 total 120,000 container with the aim to double container handling capacity by the end of 2018.

We recognised this potential at an early stage and have been developing projects in the area since 2006. We continue to be active in this area as we are currently developing a 70,000 sqm logistics centre for home24 in the Star Park industrial zone in Halle. We also have an additional plot of 40,000 sqm we recently acquired for customers who wish to take advantage of what the area has to offer.”
