GLX consolidates logistics under one roof with new Goodman development near Berlin

Goodman Group, a global leading owner, developer and manager of industrial real estate, announces the development of a 17,000 sqm logistics centre in the Berlin East Freienbrink Freight Village for GLX Global Logistic Services GmbH. Of this, the logistics service provider is initially managing 12,000 sqm for GLX’s customer Knorr-Bremse, the world’s leading manufacturer of braking systems for rail and commercial vehicles. The handover of the property is scheduled for May 2017 and the customer has the opportunity to expand the facility by 5,000 sqm.

The GLX group has been successful in the market for twenty years and generates an annual turnover of 20 million euro with around 200 employees. The companyprovides the entire spectrum of logistical services along the supply chain. Depending on customer requirements, the GLX group takes on the complete handling of logistics, as an outsourcing partner or in-house on the premises of the customer.

The Knorr‑Bremse Group has been one of GLX Group’s principal customers since 1999 and it provides various logistics services on behalf of the braking system manufacturer. In Berlin, these include the shipping logistics of Knorr‑Bremse braking systems for rail vehicles and central warehousing for the OEM business. With the new logistics centre in the Berlin East Freienbrink Freight Village, GLX is now consolidating existing logistics centres in Augsburg and Berlin to increase operational efficiency.

“The new property solution being development by Goodman will allow us to optimise our logistics services and we will have the opportunity to expand the facility in a prime logistics location in order to meet growing demand,” said Jens Kretschmer, Division Manager of GLX Global Logistic Services. “Furthermore, the site is located in direct proximity to Knorr-Bremse, which will allow us to provide even better service to our customer.”

Efficient design

The new property has a total area of around 17,000 sqm; in addition to the 15,200 sqm storage space, this includes a total of 1,800 sqm for a mezzanine area, offices and social spaces as well as 500 sqm outdoor storage. The facility will be equipped with LED lighting throughout and will receive Gold certification from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) after completion.

Convenient connections to Trans-EuropeanTransport Networks

Located in the centre of the Berlin metropolitan region, the Berlin East Freienbrink Freight Village offers companies optimal connections to road, rail, waterways and air transportation. The Berlin‑Brandenburg region is connected directly to the Trans-European Transport Networks. Along the north‑south and east‑west axes, almost 800 kilometres of motorways connect the region to numerous economic centres including the North and Baltic Sea ports and the largest markets of Eastern Europe.

In the recent study "Logistics and Real Estate 2016", launched by research company bulwiengesa, the Berlin region ranks third overall in market appeal for logistics real estate out of the 28 logistics regions in Germany. In addition to the Berlin East Freienbrink Freight Village, Goodman can offer customers immediate access to this prime logistics location with a newly developed 9,000 sqm logistics centre at GVZ Berlin South Freight Village in Grossbeeren.
