Space secured in logistics hotspot: DB Schenker moves into Goodman logistics centre in Gro├čbeeren near Berlin

Thursday, 09 March 2017

Goodman, a global leading owner, developer and manager of logistics real estate, is pleased to announce DB Schenker as a new customer into its logistics centre in Großbeeren, 12 km from  Berlin city centre, occupying 10,500 sqm. In total, the Goodman logistics centre in the Berlin South Großbeeren freight village comprises 34,000 sqm, divided into four units. A further 9,000 sqm of high-quality logistics space is available for immediate lease in the facility. The Großbeeren scheme records high customer interest due to the scarcity of suitable properties in the region.

The new property in Großbeeren near Berlin, allows DB Schenker to further expand its distribution network and secure convenient transport access to the Berlin market. Following DB Schenker’s growth and requirement to consolidate the capacity of several locations centrally, the company needed a high-quality logistics site in the Berlin-Brandenburg region at short notice. Goodman was able to meet this demand with immediate provision of logistics space in Berlin South Großbeeren freight village. The new property serves DB Schenker as a multi-client warehouse for customers from the consumer and industrial goods sectors.

“The multimodal transport connection of our new site gives us a first-class connection to the Berlin region and improves the efficiency of our processes in a high-quality property,” said Carsten Rutkowski, Branch Manager of the Berlin and Großbeeren offices of Schenker Deutschland AG.

Goodman and DB Schenker have established a strong international partnership, which now spans over ten years. At present, the property group manages over 467,964 sqm logistics space for the logistics service provider in Australia, Belgium, China, France, Germany and Poland.

Optimal conditions for efficient logistics

The new logistics centre offers DB Schenker a total of 10,500 sqm storage space with ten electrically powered loading gates. The hall height is 12.2 m and a mezzanine floor extends over the entire width. To reduce the energy demand, Goodman has fitted the property with LED lighting throughout. The entire complex has been  awarded a gold certificate from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

“With the property acquisition in Berlin South Großbeeren freight village, Goodman has once again proven the success potential of its forward-thinking development strategy in the German market,” emphasised Christof Prange, Head of Business Development at Goodman in Germany. “With this, we provide our customers quick access to the key logistics locations, where only few sites are available.”

Logistics location Berlin

In the latest “Logistics + Real Estate 2016” study by bulwiengesa, Berlin holds third place among the 28 most attractive logistics regions in Germany. With space turnover of 300,000 to 350,000 sqm per year, the demand for logistics space is high. According to the study, around 80 percent of the demand for space in recent years has come from the logistics/transport and retail sectors.

Further 9,000 sqm space available ready for occupancy in Großbeeren

In the same 34,000 sqm property in which the unit for DB Schenker is located, Goodman is offering a 9,000 sqm logistics site for rental at short notice. Offices and social areas can be realised on the mezzanine floor, as required. Nine electrically powered loading gates guarantee fast processing of goods. A clear hall height of 12.2 m and a 24/7 usage licence create optimal framework conditions for flexible operation. Via the four-lane B101, the A10 motorway is within immediate reach. Furthermore, Berlin South Großbeeren freight village is only 12 km from Berlin city centre and 15 km from Berlin-Schönefeld airport. On the eastern Berlin ring, in Freienbrink freight village, the property group is currently implementing a further new development.
