Goodman is strengthening its position in the Star Park Halle industrial area by developing a 22,000 sqm property for logistics service provider Hellmann Worldwide Logistics. The development is due for completion in September 2016 and Hellmann will use the new facility for a multichannel supplier of DIY products. Separately, Goodman has access to additional developable land on the site, which is capable of delivering 36,000 sqm of quality logistics space.

Logistics services for multichannel trade
Hellmann is an international logistics service provider that is represented in 157 countries worldwide with around 19,300 employees within its network. The company is now expanding its diverse industry solutions in Germany to include the complex field of multichannel logistics.

Hellman chose Goodman to develop the new state-of-the-art 22,000 sqm distribution centre in Star Park Halle, with Goodman also managing the facility for its customer after completion. Hellmann’s new logistics centre, will create up to 100 new jobs for the region.

“Through the partnership with Goodman, we obtain an excellent location from which to offer efficient country-wide logistics for our customer. The property solution meets our specific requirements for handling the wholeproduct range and therefore creating the optimal operating environment to fully deploy our competencies as a logistics service provider,” says Stefan Porcher, contract logistics product manager at Hellmann Worldwide Logistics.

LED lighting in the entire warehouse
The new facility will have a free height of 10.50 m and comprises 21,000 sqm of storage space, a canopy of around 270 sqm as well as offices and social areas on 430 sqm. In total, 22 loading bays will be available to receive incoming DIY products and to dispatch orders as quickly as possible to end customers or over-the-counter trade. The facility will also be comprehensively fitted with LED lighting and, on the basis of the latest assessment criteria, will receive a gold certificate from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) on completion.

“Logistics service providers are among our most important customers in Germany. The development for Hellmann, incorporates our experience in DIY store logistics and multichannel trade,” says Jordan Corynen, Goodman Regional Director for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. “At Star Park, we only recently handed over a new logistics centre to eBay Enterprise and we are now beginning our first development for Hellmann. We are delighted to be developing a quality warehouse solution for another well-known logistics service provider.”

In its German portfolio, Goodman currently manages around 150,000 sqm used for DIY store logistics. For online and multichannel trade, the figure is already over one million sqm.

Multimodal logistics location
In Halle, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics benefits from first-class, multimodal transport connections, with the A14 and A9 motorways in easy reach. Leipzig/Halle international cargo airport is only 10 km from the site, which also offers convenient access to the rail network through the Halle freight station. In addition, there is a container terminal in the Saale port.
