Goodman today announces that it has commenced the construction of a speculative 10,000 sqm warehouse unit on Genter Ufer in Hamburg, which represents the first phase of development at its 65,000 sqm Goodman Interlink Hamburg site.
In February 2013, Goodman secured the lease of an approx. 65,000 sqm site from the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA), which has been named Goodman Interlink Hamburg. The site is suitable for a total development of 40,000 sqm of modern logistics space.
Speaking on the commencement of the speculative development project, Andreas Fleischer, Goodman Regional Director Germany, said: “Hamburg is a very attractive location for logistics specialists, and following a period of subdued activity due to the uncertain economic conditions, we are expecting a strong increase in demand for new space, which we are well positioned to provide, with flexible accommodation solutions in a prime location.”
The latest figures from the port marketing record a 3.5 % increase in the movement of goods in the Port of Hamburg during the first six months of 2013 compared to the same period in 2012, which indicates that logistics market conditions are improving.
When completed in March 2014, the first warehouse unit will offer 9,500 sqm of logistics space and 500 sqm of office and social areas for potential customers, providing a high degree of flexibility, which caters for their individual port logistics processes.
A further feature of the new warehouse unit is that potential customers requiring warehouse space of more than 10,000 sqm have the option of commissioning a second unit with a further 20,000 sqm alongside the first property.
Users will benefit from the proximity of two state-of-the-art container terminals and the Airbus plant at Finkenwerder. Even the name, Goodman Interlink Hamburg, highlights the ideal connection of the port location and the international significance of the project.
Prospective customers will have the opportunity to meet the Goodman team at the Hamburg logistics summer festival on 29 August 2013.
