Goodman develops new regional head office for Kuehne + Nagel in Nuremberg

Thursday, 21 February 2013

Goodman, the integrated property company that owns, manages and develops logistics space globally, and logistics company Kuehne + Nagel held a ground-breaking ceremony in Franconia on 21 February 2013, to mark the official start of construction work for a new 30,000 sqm logistics centre. Goodman is developing a state-of-the-art facility for Kuehne+Nagel in the Bayernhafen Nuremberg freight village (GVZ), which will also serve as the new regional head office for Kuehne + Nagel Nuremberg.

The logistics centre has been designed by Goodman as a multi-purpose, multi-user facility and tailored specifically to the requirements of Kuehne + Nagel. On completion in autumn 2013, the logistics centre will comprise a 25,000 sqm goods handling and storage facility, with a further 5,000 sqm of office space. The development also provides Kuehne + Nagel with an expansion option to cater for the future growth of its business.

The new facility will include 63 loading gates, allowing quick and smooth processing of incoming and outgoing goods. The contract logistics area of the building also features a ceiling height of twelve metres, facilitating the storage of goods in high racks. The intermodal terminal has been designed in accordance with the latest environmental and safety directives.

“Kuehne + Nagel has been operating in Nuremberg for more than five decades. The co- operation with Goodman has given us a new building in an attractive position,” says Hans-Georg Brinkmann, chairman of the board of management of Kuehne + Nagel (AG & Co.) KG. Wolfgang Lindner, Kuehne + Nagel Branch Manager for Nuremberg adds: “The logistics centre will become the new head office for Kuehne + Nagel Nuremberg. Our office at the airport will remain in place.”

Andreas Fleischer, Goodman Regional Director for Germany, states: “Kuehne + Nagel is one of the biggest customers in our European portfolio and we are very pleased to have worked together to develop a concept that precisely met Kuehne + Nagel’s project requirements. As a result, we were able to further intensify our co-operation.”

For Goodman, this is the second large investment in the GVZ in Nuremberg, with the tri-modal Bayernhafen Nuremberg GVZ ranked as one of the most attractive logistics locations in Germany. In the 2012 ranking of national freight villages by the German freight village association (Deutsche GVZ Gesellschaft – DGG), it secured first place alongside Bremen.

Goodman will  have  the  new  logistics  centre  in  Nuremberg silver  certified by  the  German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), in line with its approach to sustainable development.
